Fashion Gives Back

Fashion Companies Who Are Giving Back To The World

The world loves fashion, it's always been a part of our lives and a part of our world. I'm here to talk about fashion that loves the world. Before you were even born your parents were picking out outfits for you, deciding what colors and styles to dress you in. Gender neutral? Pink? Blue? A Onesie? Overalls? A Dress? As we grow older fashion, style and trends continue to be an influential part of our lives and identity. As women we become consumed with makeup trends, hair styles, face products and so on. The case for men may be different, but there is still a lot to consider on a daily basis. Because of social media we have created a society that revolves around fashion and what someone looks like. We are surrounded by it from the moment we come into the world.

I’m not saying that I think fashion is negative, I think it can be constructive, empowering, motivating and many other things. This is part of the reason why I started Stylebasix, because I believe fashion is a positive aspect of life. Although we may not have much control over what the world does with it, we do have control over who we buy from and who we support.

In this article I would like to highlight some amazing companies who I think are doing the world a favor by selling their stylish products. In my opinion we should only be buying from companies that give us good rates for the products they provide. We work hard to earn our money everyday and many other jewelry companies that I have noticed selling similar products to what we offer will charge you double or triple what they need to, to make extra money. From founding Stylebasix I have really realized what a big problem this is. My question is why are we paying and supporting businesses that do not respect our hard earned money? In my mind it comes down to a basic idea of human respect. We should all respect how hard our fellow neighbors work for their money because we work hard just the same. This is a big reason behind Stylebasix having very low prices it is not because we are selling you cheap products it is because we respect your money and are trying to minimize inflation.

Coupled with this idea if I am going to pay a bigger sum of money for an extra fashion item that I will use once in awhile, I would rather pay it to a company who will do something worthwhile with it. It makes me feel better to know that if I am spending $50 of my hard earned money some of that money will go to helping someone else. This brings me to the point again of the companies who we should be buying from. Lately I have been reading up on some businesses who are partnered with some really interesting initiatives worldwide. In the future Stylebasix hopes to follow in their footsteps by partnering with no kill animal rescues throughout North America. We plan to do this by donating a portion of our earnings every year. Eventually our end goal is to found our own animal rescue mission. One institute that we have our eye on right now is called “Cat House On The Kings”. They are a no kill shelter that currently houses close to 1000 cats, if you haven't heard of them I recommend googling them. They are located in the USA in the State of California, if you live near them please go visit them for me and comment your pictures on this post!

Unfortunately Stylebasix does not yet have enough funds to do anything close to the scale, but by buying from us we promise you it will make a difference and we will be donating whatever we can. We will be keeping you updated on all initiatives we run to save the animals. Both of my cats were rescued and I have volunteered at shelters. In total I personally have more than 400 hours which I have spent volunteering, this also includes working with underprivileged children. My goal is to do more volunteering this year. From working with these institutions I have realized how much they really need your support and the support of businesses. So let's dive right into which businesses are making the difference in our world today!

1.The Giving Keys - Their Goal: To “Pay It Forward” by helping homelessness

They are not a “non profit organization” but rather a “social enterprise”. What does this mean? This means that they are an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being. This company makes adorable key themed jewelry and stamps it with inspirational words like “Love”, “Dream”, and “Inspire”. What they want you to do with your jewelry is unique; they want you to embrace the word you receive on your key. Then you are supposed to try and incorporate it into all aspects of your life. When you feel you have succeeded, you are supposed to pass it on to someone who needs the message more than you by giving them that piece of jewelry. How many of you give food or money to homeless people you see on the side of the street? I know when I visit Toronto in Canada, our largest city, I end up giving at least 4 people on the side of the street food. After coming across this initiative I think that this is a more meaningful and cool idea to try and I will be doing this in the future. What is even better about this organization is that with every sale they make, they take a portion of your money and use it to help people who are transitioning out of homelessness. To date they have helped over 70 homeless people find jobs, we need more businesses who help out our communities like this, it is something Stylebasix will definitely be supporting in the future. Their key jewelry starts around $42.00 CAD view their website to find a store near you, or they have free shipping when you spend more than $75.00 CAD.

2. Sevenly - Their Goal: To be a “give back” brand with social awareness

Sevenly is a very In depth social initiative, I highly recommend you visit their website and read their tabs on“how we work” and “how we give”. They were founded in 2011 so they have been working at their goal of human rights and social fairness across the globe for six years now! They started with the goal of wanting to lead the new generation to become more generous. Each week they start a new campaign supporting a new charity or cause.

They create art, apparel and accessories for the cause, giving them their own brand and help them raise funds by selling the products; it is such a neat idea. They have raised close to 5 million dollars in 6 years for charities across the globe which is incredible. When you visit their website you are able to select which cause you would like to support. Currently in their featured causes you can choose from: refugee, women empowerment, education, abolition, autism, great outdoors, cancer or vets and military. Their prices usually range around $30 CAD and they are partnered with another cool product called “Cause Box”.

In just 2 short years they have donated close to 1 million dollars to the elephants and hundreds of thousands more to other worthy organizations. 5. Roma Boots - Their Goal: To put boots on children in poverty

This was one of my favorite organizations to read about. I used to do a lot of work with children so it really spoke to me. Their boots are amazing from what I’ve seen. Are you someone who has ever bought a pair of Hunter boots? These Roma boots are pretty much the exact same thing, some of them come with that cute knitted liner you see in Hunter boots. They are also less than half of the price with their boots usually costing between $25 USD-$75 USD. Roma Boots are merging fashion with philanthropy; their mission is to bring children in poverty throughout the world hope, love and lasting change through aid and education.

Every time you buy a pair of boots from this company a pair is donated to a child in need, how great is that? On top of that they also donate 10% of all their proceeds to fund educational initiatives around the world. Roma was founded by a man named Samuel Bistrian in 2010 who wanted to make a change in his home country of Romania. It's amazing to see all that they've accomplished in only 7 years and they are now supported by high profile philanthropists like Sadie Robertson. You can view Sadie’s collection on their website as well as their other cute boots that are all made with eco-friendly materials and a quick dry liner. If you are debating between Hunter boots and Roma boots, I personally recommend 2 pairs of these. By buying these boots you will be helping 2 children for the price of one fashion boot you would get from Hunter boots. You also get double the amount of boots! Are you someone who visits countries like Cuba or Haiti and brings over a suitcase of items to donate to the children there? This is an easy way to help communities like that from the comfort of your home.

6. Love Your Melon - Their Goal: To put a hat on every kid with Cancer

“Love Your Melon” is an adorable fashion/apparel brand that has dedicated itself to fight against pediatric cancer. They do this by working with nonprofit partners who work in the field of pediatric oncology. In addition they also provide support to the families of children battling cancer. According to their website 15,000 children are diagnosed with this type of cancer every year. So they run what they call “Donation Events” to try to connect with as many children as they can.

They also engage like minded college students across all fifty states in the USA which is a pretty big deal. They also donate 50% of all profits from their company, which you will notice is by far the highest amount on this list of companies. They currently have 840 crews, 13,500 members, and have donated nearly 3 million dollars to the cause. They have given close to 100,000 beanies to cancer children. If you know someone with this type of cancer and would like to join their fashion forward initiative definitely check out their page. Their hats and mittens generally range from $35 USD - $50 USD with a very cute logo stitched on.
